About the Okefenokee Swamp
The Okefenokee Swamp is a National Wildlife Refuge, and his home to nearly a half-million acres. You can take boat tours through Indian Waterways, walk through the wilderness on wilderness walkways, visit Chesser Island Homestead and get a look into a day in the life of a swamp family. Drive swamp Island Drive and walk the Boardwalk to Owl's Roost tower and see native wild animals in their own habitat. The swamp really is a gateway into the history of American life where you can see where primitive man ruled the wilds, and where Indians hunted and fished. This area has been in many Hollywood movies, has been featured on television and the radio, and is in many newspapers and magazines. The "Land of Trembling Earth" is one of the most acclaimed wilderness areas in the United States.
